Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute organizes a seminar on cultivating the new generation and academic excellence

On May 22nd, in order to deepen the concept of education in the new era and to promote the cultivation of new generations of students, Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute held a teaching seminar with the theme of Undergraduate Joint Cultivation and Graduate Studies Program Policy Analysis. The speakers were Ms. Lan Luo and Ms. Keru Chen from the Career Advising Group. Professor TsunZee Mai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and more than 30 faculty members had an in-depth discussion on undergraduate joint cultivation, graduate pathways, and faculty collaboration mechanisms.

Facing the trend of globalized competition for talents, SCUPI has constructed a multi-level undergraduate joint cultivation system to accurately match the development needs of students through multiple types of cultivation modes.

Ms. Luo firstly pointed out that it is the mission of the institute to promote the internationalization of education and academic mobility. In the view of the increasing demand of students for overseas transfer and further study, the participation of the teaching team is crucial to consolidate student’s academic foundation and provide a support system. She introduced that the Career Advising Group has formed a full-cycle service system, covering the whole process of tracking from new student orientation to graduation internship, as well as providing personalized transfer planning consultation and coordinating the docking work of overseas partner institutions.



In the analysis of the undergraduate joint cultivation program, Ms. Luo explained in detail the academic arrangements of different partner institutions. She emphasized that some institutions have clear requirements on GPA standards and specific pre-requisite courses, so it is very important for students to have early academic planning for further studies. The construction of postgraduate pathways is also effective, and SCUPI has established special cooperation with more than ten international universities in Europe, America, and Asia. Ms. Chen systematically sorted out the key information of each partner institution, such as the characteristics of master’s degree cultivation, the distribution of advantageous majors, enrollment requirements, and tuition policies.

During the seminar, the participating faculty members actively asked questions and exchanged ideas discussed specific issues such as cross-country course articulation and transfer procedures in the light of teaching practice, and shared their insights on joint training.
Finally, Mr. Luo advocated that every faculty member should bring an open mind to cooperate and support and collaborate to establish a long-term mechanism for faculty support, to form a system of collaborative faculty training under the perspective of internationalization.
